Eric Zorn and Buymusic.com Sep18 '03
In the Metro section of the Chicago Tribune today, there is an article by Eric Zorn about his troublesome meanderings with BuyMusic.com. A while back, I wrote an entry that compared BuyMusic with Apple’s iTunes. In today’s Tribune, Eric tells of his dissatisfying experience, and at the end, he wondered if things could be easier.
I wrote him an email this morning, claiming that YES – things can be a lot easier, and I linked him to that same entry from above. I told him that things can be much easier and human–oriented, if you use a Mac. You don’t have to be a technical wizard to perform such tasks as downloading songs, burning CDs, etc – if you use a Mac.
Macs are geared towards PEOPLE. PCs are geared towards IT professionals.
Most people that know me realize that any chance I get, I will cheer Macs over PCs. But I have nothing wrong with PCs. I work on them all the time. The problem with them is that they bury everything that you need to conduct simple processes. Burning a silly CD should not cause your computer to crash three times! Changing the resolution of the screen should be a simple, straight–forward task, not buried for no one to find.
PCs are much too technical, and not human–friendly. Macs are geared towards PEOPLE. PC’s are geared towards IT professionals. I suppose Windows XP is Microsoft’s first attempt at making PC’s more like Macs. But you can’t duplicate the ingenuity of Apple.
In any case, maybe Eric will write me back. I’m interested to see if he has ever tried iTunes on a Mac. He’d be in for a surprise.
