Thud Oct10 '04
Along a smooth, rural stretch of road, somewhere in western Wisconsin, a large deer darted out into the open road.
She went half way, turned back for a few steps, then went back the way she was going.
The car that was approaching swerved into the other lane, which was oncoming traffic. Luckily, there was no oncoming traffic at the time, and the deer, who decided to test fate, only hit the passenger side of the car.
A loud thud echoed inside the car, and presumably throughout the deer’s entire body.
In the rear view mirror, the deer stumbled to the ground, but instantly got to it’s feet, and finished crossing the road. It seemed to hardly be affected by the blow it received – from a car moving at 55 miles per hour.
The passengers of the car pulled over immediately, to survey the damage, and gain control of the situation.
Luckily, minimal damage occurred to the car. And both passengers were completely unharmed.
Still, as the sun settles among the corn fields and farmhouses, that same car is paying a little more attention to the side of the road. The sounds and sights still echo.
