Netflix "star ratings"
Netflix allows you to rate movies you’ve watched, by giving it a "star rating," which is any number of stars from 1 to 5.
Today I gave out my first five.
The Italian Job
Adventurous, bold, funny, and full of surprises. Although The Italian Job (2003) uses the basis of many stories – money – it still provides some new twists and takes, and remains highly entertaining throughout.
What follows are some specific reasons on why I gave The Italian Job five stars.
Great cast of characters
- Mark Wahlberg
- Charlize Theron
- Edward Norton
- Seth Green
- Donald Sutherland
- Jason Statham
- Mos Def
- Franky G.
All likable figures, as well as superb actors. They all fit their roles really well.
Great plot
The plot seems common – a fight over money. However, there are many elements added to this movie that make it stand out above the rest. It has many similar characteristics to Oceans Eleven – except more dangerous stunts and ideas are pulled in The Italian Job.
Great road scenes
Those three cars rocked. And how they took the cars on the subway tracks, after stopping the train? Awesome action scene.
Also, the helicopter weaving it’s way through the tall inter–city buildings? Very nice camera work.
Great technology stunts
Seth Green was perfect in his role as computer genious (and the REAL founder of Napster). It was cool how he was able to hack into so many different systems. The best was the traffic lights. He controlled when they turned green and red.
And, of course, with Seth Green, you have his sense of humor and personality that makes him so much better.
Great "inside jokes"
The one scene with Shawn Fanning (founder of Napster) was very funny.
Throughout the movie, Seth Green’s character kept stating that HE was the REAL founder of Napster – not Fanning. In fact, he even goes as far as saying that the reason it is called Napster is because Shawn stole his idea while he was napping, back when they were in college together.
I liked that twist on Seth Green’s character.
Even a small love story!
It was love for her father that drove Charlize Theron’s character to participate in the jobs to get the guy who killed her father.
But there was also a brief love story between Mark Wahlberg’s character and Charlize Theron’s character. It was subtle, but present. In the end, they got back together.
In the end
Even though it all came down to money, the ride was still very entertaining.
