Wicker Park Mar30 '05
I gave Wicker Park 5 stars last night, after reading mainly negative reviews and cynicism.
Sitting through all the mix–ups, misleads, ponderings, and anger – after the final scene at the airport, with both actors on their knees, in embrace, and Coldplay’s The Scientist wrapping up the soundtrack, I was near tears at what I had just witnessed.
I could barely move a muscle. I just stared at the screen, unable to sort it all out.
I had never seen a movie with so much depth to it. Never witnessed a story as true as love itself.
For all that matters at the end of the day, there is always someone looking your way.
It wasn’t just a story of two people trying to physically re–locate each other – it was a story of obsession, jealousy, betrayal, and despair. And love, above all else.
And that final scene was beautiful. After all that heartache, struggle, and loss of hope – the impossible happens... they turn around to find each other... Heck, they were both there all along - no one ever left.
It just seemed that way.
