Cubs baseball always lives on Aug30 '05
Wednesday I will be at Wrigley Field again, for another 1:20 PM start. Ain’t nothing like getting away from the office for a baseball game, in the middle of the week. And what better place than Wrigley Field, where the fans come out - rain or shine, winning or losing, and day or night. You can always count on an entertaining nine innings at Wrigley.
It’s really amazing to be a part of a city which prides it’s baseball team so greatly. The Cubs are clearly out of contention, for the 2005 season - but you won’t notice that by lack of fans in the park. In fact, there will be fans packing that park until the last pitch is thrown, at the end of September.
And even after that, fans won’t just go home. They will remain forever together - close, loyal - unbreakable. As soon as that last pitch is thrown - all Cubs will be thinking about is the next pitch - which won’t happen until March of 2006.
And even as I see this season dwindling to an end - I can only "count my blessings" that I have another whole month of baseball in Chicago.
And hey - if the Sox go pretty far, I will cheer them on too. Baseball is baseball and Chicago is Chicago. The game is great, no matter who is playing.
I know that soon the cold winter winds will dry out my eyes - and I’ll long for these warm and clear summer afternoons and evenings. That time will come soon, and I want to hang onto what I can, while I can.
