iMic for ‘MiniDisc to Mac’ recording Sep07 '05
I am excited because my iMic should be arriving at my house today or tomorrow.
This is a low-end solution to provide major advancements in my personal music recording capabilities.
I’ve been using MiniDisc recording technologies since before the dawn of this blog - that is, for a very long time.
MiniDisc’s are so impressive, when it comes to digital recording. The quality is incredible; the interfaces stunning; and the support growing.
For example, you can record from any audio source, onto cheap, durable, discs, which can be re-used millions of times.
I used to record all my music onto MiniDisc devices, but since I got my iPod, things changed. Now, I only record live audio, voice, and instruments.
I have dozens of MiniDisc’s with audio on them, that I want to save.
Finally, with the iMic, there is a cheap solution to transfer audio from MiniDisc’s onto a Mac or PC, which can then be saved as MP3, WAV, or AAC digital audio files. I can then archive those, listen to them on my iPod, or share over the internet.
What I plan to do
What I plan to do is record music that I am learning - either from guitar or piano, and share what I have, through this blog. So, instead of just referencing the guitar chords or tablature, I’ll be able to include a sound file with it - that being me playing the instrument, and possibly singing.
GarageBand is my software of choice, for recording audio from an external source.
