Password entering Jan06 '06

Have you ever had to tell someone to enter their password, for something you are trying to set up or troubleshoot on their computer?

This happens a lot for me. I’m either mapping a new network drive to someone’s computer, or just performing general troubleshooting things... and many times the person will need to enter their network password, email password, etc.

What’s funny is my "politeness" in such cases, as I "look away," or pretend to focus on something else, while the person is manually entering their password.

Of course, I’m not really "looking away," I just pretend I am - so the person doesn’t feel like I’m watching, as they enter their password.

For some reason, I feel I have to do this - "look away," that is. I feel I have to show them that I am physically turning my body around (or head), and looking in another direction, presumably at something that just caught my attention (ironic how my attention is always caught during such routines...).

I wonder if other people do the same thing, when I’m entering a password. I don’t really know, because I’m typing, and I can’t see which direction the person is looking. I would hope they’re looking away, but then they’d be doing the same thing I do - which is "pretending" that their attention was suddenly absorbed by something else.

I just think this is a funny/quirky behaviour of humans - and some do it without even realizing it. It’s silly if you think about it.
