Smarter searching at Netflix Feb24 '06
On Netflix, how do I search for T.V. shows that I’ve never seen, and don’t know the name of?
Netflix provides recommendations for T.V. shows, but it’s a very redundant system. For example, my "Recommendations" are currently suggesting eight different seasons of "Friends." Why do I need to be recommended the same T.V. show eight times?? Just recommend it once, and if I like it, I’ll get the remaining seasons.
Here’s a trick I learned: search the Netflix site for the term "Season 1". Since Season 1 is where you’d want to start for any new T.V. show, this search makes perfect sense:

Truthfully, all this query does is grab every T.V. show available on Netflix, following this theory:
"Every T.V. show on Netflix must have a Season 1."
This is true, so if you browse to "Movie Matches," you’ll see the total amount (currently 1,023):

You can now scroll through all T.V. shows available on Netflix, even ones you never thought existed!
