Flickr friendly URL’s Mar20 '06

Flickr has "friendly URL’s" for almost every section of their site.

For example, the "Tools" page, which has "image uploading tools," is located at:

flickr.com/tools

If I need to browse for specific "tags," I can simply type:

flickr.com/photos/tags/[tag]

... where [tag] is the name of a tag that I am searching for.

If I want to search just my own tags, I type this:

flickr.com/photos/matthom/tags/[tag]

See how easy that is?

However, there is one area of Flickr that I wish was a little bit better.

The URL’s for sets are auto-generated numbers. A typical URL for a set looks like this:

flickr.com/photos/matthom/sets/72057594086065143/

The number is obviously an identifier, of some sort, but couldn’t Flickr just use the name of the set?

Something like:

flickr.com/photos/matthom/sets/san-diego-day-1-sunday/

That would be much more usable, without sacraficing too much development time. I wouldn’t think it would be that hard to develop.
