No more operating systems for me Apr03 '06

I think I am finished purchasing and/or upgrading operating systems - on Mac and Windows.

With all the amazing web applications popping up - there is really no need to have the latest OS anymore. All that’s needed is an internet connection.

How could I possibly ditch my local CPU, you wonder?

Well, I can’t do that just yet - but the day is coming.

Even today, it’s already possible to do many common "desktop tasks," such as email, word-processing, spreadsheet, and photo management - directly through a browser.

I can even manage my days, keep track of RSS feeds, and store my physical computer files.

These web applications will continue to grow, until almost everything you can do "on the desktop," you’ll be able to do through a browser.

So why do I need to keep spending money on new operating systems?

Windows Vista? All the "features" for that have been on a Mac OS X, for ages.

Mac OS X Leopard? I’m questioning whether I will even need this, as well.

Consider this the "prequel" to a very large chapter, that will be coming soon, down the road. These doubts and issues I have are certainly not going to go away.
