Sunny in Chicago Jan02 '07
If you like basketball - especially up-tempo, fun basketball, make sure you're eye is on the United Center this evening, as the Phoenix Suns are in town to play the Bulls.
The always-interesting Suns have a long history with the Bulls - back in the days of Charles Barkley, Dan Majerle, Kevin Johnson, and many more. These days the Suns are led by one of the best point guards to ever play the game - Steve Nash.
He may look skinny and short - but don't be fooled by the looks. Nash is a pure court leader - with eyes on each side of his head. He can make passes that you never thought we there, and shoot from the outside with incredible ease. And try stealing the ball from him? It's not gonna happen. Nash dips and dives through defenders - the actual ball a small by-product of his travels.
The Suns are part of the high-profile Western conference - teams that average over 100 point per game - on a slow night. Watching two Western conference teams compete is like sitting front row at the movie theatre - you constantly have to keep turning your head left and right, to keep up with everything on screen. Back and forth, back and forth.
Some say the Western conference lacks defense - and I certainly think it's debatable. Although we'll find out for sure tonight, as the Bulls slower-style offense will force Phoenix to change their game slightly - although they haven't had a problem yet - they're currently 11-1 against Eastern conference teams, and 7-0 on the road, so far this season.
And Nash is not the only great player on the Suns. Amare Stoudemire complements Nash quite well, which will certainly pose a defensive challenge for the Bulls. Nash and Stoudemire are both coming off huge games - this past Sunday against Detroit: Nash had 35 points, 12 assists; Stoudemire: 31 points, 13 rebounds.
It should be fun tonight.
