Miller Park for back-to-back Cubs games Feb24 '07
Baseball is officially back. Well, not quite, but it's getting close.
This was evident today when Michelle and I purchased tickets for the Cubs and Brewers, at Miller Park in Milwaukee. We're going for the night game on my birthday (April 6), and staying in town for the following day's game at 12:05 PM. I figured there was no point in driving home to Chicago at 11 PM, or midnight, on a Friday night. Might as well stay overnight and catch the afternoon game, before heading home. And it's my birthday, so I got a little greedy.
I also like how the Brewers planned the Cubs being in town on my birthday. That was nice of them. ;)
I am excited - this is the first time that I've been able to go to back-to-back baseball games - in another city, at that.
Wrigley Field
This is not my first time at Miller Park, however - I went once last summer, and one time prior to that as well. I am a Cubs fan, and sometimes it's much easier to get Cubs tickets for their away games, as opposed to games at Wrigley Field, which sell out much quicker.
It also doesn't help that Wrigley Field is a major landmark in Chicago, and one of the oldest (and most prestigious) stadiums in the country.
Plus it's great to see other ballparks - Wrigley Field is nice to visit, but when you live in the same city, it's not such a big deal.
We are lucky that Milwaukee is just a 60 minute drive north. We have the opportunity to see professional baseball games at sometimes half the price, and much more availability.
Miller Park
Miller Park is a lot of fun. It sits quietly off in a remote distance from the bustle of downtown Milwaukee. But once you approach it, it's much larger than it appeared from a distance. Giant, horizontal columns (which look like bridges) round-out the top of the stadium.
The park has a "convertible roof," meaning the roof can be closed, or open - depending on the weather.
Inside, the concourse walkways are shadowed nicely, and a good distance away from the internal "aura" of the stadium. Once you walk closer to the seating area though, you're softly welcomed into the park. Your first look around is usually in awe. The park is beautifully expansive and deep.
At night, the indoor lights are spectacular.
It being early April, I am not sure if the roof will be open or closed. It might still be chilly out, especially at night.
