Home from Milwaukee Apr08 '07
I'm back from the Milwaukee/Waukesha area of Wisconsin, after a brief two-day vacation to see the Cubs play the Brewers at Miller Park. My birthday was Friday, and it was nice to get away for the weekend with Michelle.
The Cubs won both games that we attended - Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
As always, we enjoyed the atmosphere of Miller Park, which as expected, seemed to be filled with more Cubs fans than Brewers fans. Miller Park is very close to Chicago (approximately 100 miles), and some Cubs fans refer to it as "Wrigley Field North."
Cubs and Brewers fans
You haven't really experienced Cubs baseball until you visit an opposing teams ballpark - specifically either Milwaukee, St. Louis, or White Sox stadium.
While the large presence of Cubs fans put us in good company at Miller Park in Milwaukee, the antagonistic Brewers fans were everywhere - berating the Cubs fans as much as possible.
You see, the Brewers fans hate it when the Cubs come to town, because we basically take over their stadium, drink their beer, and park in their parking lots. And Brewers fans are not afraid to let us know how they feel. Cubs fans, however, aren't shy either when it comes to confrontation.
On a few occasions, fights broke out between drunk fans, but that was the exception. The majority of the time, fans of both teams were civil. After all, we're there to watch baseball, not start fights. If Cubs fans wanted to start fights, they can always make the shorter trip to U.S. Cellular Field.
Overall, Brewers fans are relatively fun to be around. However, you'll always have your random drunk idiots that make things less fun for everyone. Cubs fans are no better in that regard.
Miller Brewing Plant

On Friday afternoon, before the night game, we visited the Miller Brewing Plant, to see how beer is made. Unfortunately, it being Good Friday, the plant processes were not in operation, as most employees were off for the long weekend.
However, we still got what we came for: free beer. Towards the end of the tour, we were treated to three glasses each of Miller Lite, MGD, and Leinenkugel's - all freshly brewed at that very location. (There was even beer coming out of the faucets in the bathrooms - just kidding.)
And to my surprise, the anti-beer fanatic, Michelle - had a sip! I snapped some photos for preservation.
