Thanks Jim. That's interesting to note. I received the "cache tip" in a random forum, so I'm not sure if it's validated or not.
If you're not noticing any decrease in battery life, even while listening to lossless songs on your iPod, perhaps there is no issue.
I'm eager for more feedback on this topic, though.

Current iPods (other than the Shuffle) support Apple Lossless.

I wasn't aware of the "iTunes cache" problem, which is bad news for lossless encoded song files.

Hmmm, I wasn't aware of the 'cache' issue either.
I have put about 400 CD's into iTunes in the Apple Lossless format - and I play them back in all my iPods with no problem at all. I have 3 iPods - a 1st gen 8 GB nano, a 2nd gen 8 GB nano, and a 5th gen 80 GB video. All three play the lossless without problem - and I still seem to get the same battery life as before.
However, I do find myself gravitating toward my 80 GB more than ever due to the size of the HD vs the size of the songs I am putting on it - this has caused me to make 'special' mixes for the 8 GB nano's - more than I had to do in the past when I was using the ACC encoding and the files were a lot smaller.
