Use Twitter to save on text message charges Apr13 '07

I'm trying to get Michelle to sign up for a Twitter account, since we communicate via text message frequently. With our busy lives, and the fact that we're still living apart, we have to use what technology offers.

Normally I update Michelle with my status with a direct text message. However, I already update Twitter with my status, so in many cases, I am sending two text messages saying the same exact thing. This is essentially one text message for the price of two.

I also recently downgraded my cell phone plan to save money, and I now have a limit on the text messages I can send. So it makes sense to use Twitter, since I only have to send one message to Twitter, and everyone who's "following me on Twitter" will receive the message.

Not only that, but I don't even have to send my Twitter updates from my phone (costing me a text message). I can send updates over the web (completely free), and my recipients still get a text message on their phone (if they choose to have their account set up this way). In this sense, I am not getting charged for even sending the text message.

This is a "no brainer" for those looking to save on text message charges, but still want to keep those close to them informed as to what they are doing, or thinking.

I am all for using technology for what it offers, and Twitter is a perfect example.
