Tagamac: Tagging concepts and philosophy Oct10 '07
"Tagging" is a concept that's become pretty common in recent years, namely in web applications that allow for some sort of organization or structure.
Rather than using the traditional "folder" concept, tags allow you to organize more freely, using any combination of "keywords" which describe the item or the item's intention. The ability to apply multiple tags per item gives you precise organizational control.
Examples of services that use tagging today are Flickr, Gmail, and delicious, to name a few.
Tagamac is dedicated to analyzing the philosophy and terminology of tagging, as well as promoting Mac OS X software that allows for tagging.
If you're confused or otherwise indifferent about tagging, Tagamac will help clarify the meaning of it all.
To get started, read The realms of tagging, which talks about the three distinct realms of tagging: public, private, and collaborative.
Next, read Tagging best practices, which provides some insightful tips on how to tag properly and consistently.
