Email voice attachments - where is this service? Nov05 '07
Why is there no obvious service that offers email voice attachments?
For example, I'm driving home and see an email on my iPhone. I'd like to respond immediately, while my thoughts are fresh, but I don't want to type while driving. That'd be just asking to get killed.
Instead, I can make a phone call with my headset or in-dash speaker, freeing me entirely of juggling my mobile device while attempting to drive.
The number I call would be to a web service like Jott, but instead of voice-to-text transcription, my entire message would be saved as a voice recording, much like voicemail. After I record my message, I can choose to have it emailed immediately to any recipient.
The recipient opens my email and is provided with a link to a web page that contains my voice recording. They'd be able to listen to my voice recording through any web browser.
I can also choose to have the voice recording saved as an attachment to the email, as opposed to a link to the web page.
This is why services like Jott, however useful, confuse me. We don't necessarily want voice-to-text (which is very buggy anyway), we just want the ability to transmit our message without typing. A voice recording is just as useful.
This could also be a unique way to leave voice messages if the recipient doesn't have a phone.
GrandCentral
GrandCentral comes to mind because I can easily email voicemail messages, which the recipient can listen to through a browser. If only there was some way to leave myself a message with GrandCentral.
