Firefox keyword search for Gmail Nov25 '07

The latest version of Gmail introduced friendly URL's, which allow you to bookmark individual emails. Even better, you can use your browser to perform keyword searches, which saves a few steps when performing a search in Gmail.

Rather than opening Gmail (if it's not already open), waiting for it to fully load, clicking inside the search text box, typing the search, then reloading the page again for search results - you can encapsulate all this into one or two steps.

In Firefox, create a new bookmark for this URL:

http://mail.google.com/mail/#search/%s

Supply a keyword for this bookmark - something relevant to Gmail so it's easy to remember. We'll use "gmail" for this example.

Then, when you need to search Gmail, just go to the address bar and type:

gmail [searchterm]

That's "gmailSPACE[searchterm]." [searchterm] is your search query. Here is an example search, using this syntax:

gmail pool party

Gmail will immediately open the search results page. No clicking into text boxes necessary.
