My thoughts on Macworld announcements Jan16 '08
It goes without saying that I think all of the announcements are interesting in some way. Now... whether it benefits me, or not, is another story.
Time Capsule
Useless to me, just as Time Machine is. I backup my files with online storage, and have no need for local backups - wireless or not.
Apple TV 2
Very intriguing, but selection is what will decide my involvement with this. Netflix still offers over 90,000 titles on disc, as well as unlimited streaming. As far as the cost, see the next topic below.
I do like the fact that I could showcase Flickr photos and YouTube videos straight from my TV. What a great way to host a party.
iTunes Movie Rentals
Why pay iTunes $3.99 for new releases when my local Redbox charges $1? Still, if I want a movie instantly, iTunes may be a good option.
MacBook Air
Damn sexy, but I'm not in the market for a laptop, otherwise I'd easily pick one up. Doing away with the optical drive, as well as an Ethernet port, is a bold move, but I think I could live with it. It'd be purely a wireless device. I ask myself, "How often do I plug an Ethernet cable into my MacBook?" Rarely ever.
