Misconception that Macs "just work" Mar11 '08
There is a common misconception amongst the PC community that goes something like this:
"I hate this PC. I think I'm finally going to get a Mac."
A Mac gives the aura of being a flawless, perfect specimen of the desktop computing species.
"All those problems you've encountered using Windows - they'll all be gone with a Mac."
This is absolutely not true.
A Mac won't solve your computer woes. It's not going to magically remove the anguish of being a non-technical person in a technical world.
Although Apple gives the impression that Macs "just work," it's not quite as simple as that. You'll still experience incompatibility, random freezing, and those irritating nuances associated with all forms of desktop computing.
What you won't experience, however, is a lack of attention to details with the user in mind.
If you're switching to a Mac solely because you're ticked off with Windows, no desktop environment will please you.
However, if you're willing to make a change that will first be bumpy, but will eventually pay off in terms of overall satisfaction and enlightenment while computing, then you're ready for a Mac.
You have to be willing to change your entire perception of how desktop computing should be.
