Ad-free SMS applications with TextMarks Sep12 '08

TextMarks has just released an ad-free version of their SMS service. This is compelling for those who'd like more control over the appearance of their SMS applications. The ads are not so bad, but they have two immediate drawbacks:

  1. They further limit the available character space.
  2. They promote a cluttered appearance, making your application feel less unique.

With the ad-free version, you can use all available character space, and your app will feel more unique.

Pricing plans are suspect though. For those developing apps with a variable amount of users, one day your app could hit it big, and explode with requests. If you're looking to manage such an app with ad-free TextMarks, you may be bumped to the higher pricing level.

However, for those apps that have a manageable and set amount of users, this looks like a great way to give your app a clean and professional appearance.

I currently use TextMarks (with ads) for "At Me" App, and "Get More" Twitter updates. Right now both services have a low to moderate amount of users, but either of them could one day take off.
