You are describing what marketing folks are calling "Netbooks", check the engadget netbook tag: http://www.engadget.com/tag/netbook/. Other than the Dell, the Lenovo S10 interests me, and the Acer Aspire1. If you have a Microcenter in Chicago, I suggest checking these out locally, getting a feel for the keyboards, they are cramped, but the tradeoff is something very portable, 2 pounds. Also check battery life and screen quality (LED backlit should be brighter).

Another product to keep on your radar, for price drop (currently $450) is the WiMAX Nokia internet tablet. WiFi versions of this device are also available for lower prices.
